Post 1: Meaning of Music

I am a person who really love music (in all the senses), is the most important thing in my life. I know it can sounds exaggerated, but it's the truth. I like discovering new bands and artists, talking about them with my friends, going to concerts/festivals, watching music videos and knowing about them.

It all started thanks to my brother, who is 17 years older than me. We never have an argue, so we have a great relationship. He used to listen to music all day (when he lived with me before he got married), so he was the first person who introduced  me  music bands. When I was thirteen he left the house, so I started to look for some new bands on my own, and the first one was Panic! At The Disco, thanks to the (amazing) internet.

Since then, I have discovered so many groups of different genres: from alternative rock, indie, to pop or even electronic music. Basically, I have dedicated my whole life to this: I have made fan clubs with friends, I have met people with the same tastes as me (and I have made friends because of this), I have bought records, I have known about emergent bands, I have gone to gigs and festivals (if I count my tickets, I probably have more than 40 approximately).

I listen to music almost the whole day: in the bus when I go to the university, at home, when I do my homeworks, while I’m reading, etc. It does not deconcentrate me. When someone comes to my house, they say: “can you turn down the volume?”, but I understand that it can bother them.

Based on that, I will try to explain why is this so important for me. Music for me is never being alone, I mean, I can be alone listening to music, but also I am with the lyrics of the songs and their rhythm, I forget about the world and everything else fades away. I do not have a clear idea of how to explain it, because every band or artist transmit me something different through their records or live shows. Every concert is special for me and have different emotions. Putting this in “simple words”:music can relax me, make me cry; make me extremely happy or accompanist me in difficult moments.

I love knowing what music means to someone, because for some people music is just dancing in the disco and for others is everything, that’s the reason why I love talking about this. It is a huge topic that I could speak it for hours. In fact, my classic question when I meet someone is: “what type of music do you like?” and with that I can realize if it is something important for them or not. By this question I have talked with a lot of people.

In this way, I have met most of my friends: we go to concerts together, we share news about music, like “this band released a new song” or “did you know about this singer?”, and it is awesome, so, thanks music for everything, I could never be so grateful.

  1. Oh, I remember when I used to hear Panic at the Disco, it was a great band. I love music too, but sadly, I'm kinda outdated in my taste, so I don't hear a lot of today (or rather post 2006) music.
I also have made great friends thanks to the music, and have gone to a lot of concerts (not nearly as much as you, obviously), so I agree and share 100% of your post, except that I can't read or study when listening to music.

    Great post, Cheers! c:
